How the Process Works

We have two social workers who meet with each individual for an initial intake. After an initial intake we submit all of the application materials to Social Security ourselves (the client does not have to go to Social Security and sign anything!). If The application is submitted before the twelfth of the month (April 11th for example), by the following month (May) we should receive social security benefits for that person. An application submitted After the 12th of the month (April 15) may not go into effect for two months (June), however, in some cases it only take Social Security a few weeks to process the application.

When we become your representative payee, all of your benefits get direct deposited into our account with Citizens bank and are then individualized on our computer. After receiving your money we will meet with you and design a budget based on your income and financial obligations. It is our responsibility as your representative payee to make sure all of your essential bills (rent, gas, electricity and phone) are paid in a timely manner and that you receive personal money on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. After devising a budget that we both agree on we will switch the billing address for all of your bills to our address and send you a weekly personal check. Please note that all personal checks are mailed on Mondays except in emergency situations.

A request for an updated balance can be given at least once a month or when proof of income is needed for housing purposes etc. We also meet with our clients about every six months to update their budgets, fill out paperwork and discuss any concerns they may have.
